Skilled Visa Invites now every 3 months (Jan 2021)

Hi everyone, 

I wanted to let you know that Immigration have announced that they will now be issuing invites for Skilled Visas every 3 months (and not monthly as previously). 

This change will continue at least for the current programme year (July 2020 to July 2021). 

This obviously will have a effect on many applicant who are wanting to be invited for particular skilled visas. 

The change will effect mainly the: 
  • Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) and
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – Family Sponsored stream visas

30% of students visa holders were out of Australia on 10/01/2020

Figures from the Federal Department of Education, Skills and Employment show 30 per cent of Australia's 542,106 student visa holders were out of the country on January 10.

Most departures occurred in New South Wales (60,394), Victoria (56,824) and Queensland (23,753).

Close to 100,000 Chinese students have departed, along with 12,740 from India and 4,655 from Vietnam, according to the department's figures.

If you have a nominated occupation listed on the Graduate occupation list (GOL) below you may be eligible for Western Australian State nomination using one of the following visa subclasses:

Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) 
or
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)

Requirements include: 

  • Have an occupation on the Graduate occupation list (see Available list as at 11.01.2021 below)
  • Meeting the Department of Home Affairs' (Home Affairs) requirements for your intended visa subclass
  • Only applicants currently living in Australia are eligible for Western Australian State nomination.
  • You must meet certain English language requirements. This is dependent on your occupation.
  • Gained qualifications from an accredited educational institution in Western Australia. Eg university or higher education qualification or a vocational education and training (VET) qualification at a Certificate III level or above
  • You must have studied at an accredited Western Australian educational institution, full-time and face-to-face, for at least two years.
  • If you studied at a University it should be an Accredited Western Australian university or higher education provider. 
  • If you studied at a Vocational level it should be an accredited Vocational Education and Training (VET) institution. 
  • You must have at least six months Australian work experience in your nominated (or closely related) occupation, or have a six month contract of employment in your nominated (or closely related) occupation in Western Australia.
  • If you live outside of Western Australia, you must have sufficient funds to cover your settlement costs and living expenses for at least three months.

Data from the Australian Institute of Criminology suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic has coincided with the onset or escalation of violence and abuse for many women.

Immigration has prepared an FAQ document that includes information on arrangements Immigration has in place to support visa holders and applicants affected by family and domestic violence.

This information is intended to assist visa holders.
